More than any other element of your house, it’s the outside that makes the biggest statement. It’s the one thing anybody can see about it. They don’t need to carry out a survey, snoop around your rooms, they don’t even need your permission. So it’s important that the outside of your house looks good. As experts in bespoke joinery, we can offer advice built on years of experience to advise you on what would best compliment your home.
Sliding box sash windows can be a great place to start. As well as having a traditional aesthetic that many find appealing, sliding box sash windows are also practical and well suited to the wet British climate. The vertical sliding motion means they can be opened a small amount to let air in without letting too much heat out, while also meaning the window stays inside the “box” (i.e. the square area of the window frame). As such, sliding box sash windows last longer than hinged windows as they are less susceptible to rot and distortion.
Different types of external doors will also suit different houses. A Georgian townhouse will want minimal, but formal external doors, usually without windows but with a knocker. Ground floor businesses might want something more inviting in their external doors; plenty of glass, to give an inviting an air that connects interior and exterior.
